Our Story

Created in the late 1950's, the Brookline Symphony Orchestra, thrived for many years, but went on hiatus in 2001. In 2010, a group of friends dedicated to bringing classical music to the community decided to revive the organization and make it an integral part of the Brookline community and beyond.  We seek to present concerts of the highest quality. Our orchestra members are talented musicians -- amateur, student, and professional -- who volunteer their time to create an organization of which Brookline can be proud.

Our Impact

We are actively working to ensure that the Brookline Symphony Orchestra becomes a vital part of Brookline's cultural life -- a community orchestra in the truest sense of the word. In addition to our traditional concerts each season, we plan a number of free outreach events annually, including free full orchestra concerts at schools, nursing homes, and hospitals.

We send musicians to various venues around the community, such as the Goddard House retirement home, to present to residents of Brookline quality chamber music outside of the concert hall. We also participate in local cultural and community events, such as the First Light Festival, and the Brookline Food Emergency Food Pantry fundraiser: "Have Heart, a Chocolate Exravaganza," where we enliven the occasions and gatherings with our music.

Our Mission
The Brookline Symphony Orchestra provides qualified volunteer musicians under professional leadership an opportunity to enhance their skills while enriching the cultural life of the community through affordable performances and outreach events.

We are honored to give Brookline an orchestra to be proud of, for both its musical achievements and its community involvement.
