Our StoryCreated in the late 1950's, the Brookline Symphony Orchestra, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, thrived for many years, but went on hiatus in 2001. In 2010, a group of friends dedicated to bringing classical music to the community decided to revive the organization and make it an integral part of the Brookline community and beyond. Now in our "second" season, we seek to present concerts of the highest quality. Our orchestra members are talented musicians -- amateur, student, and professional -- who volunteer their time to create an organization of which Brookline can be proud. Our impactWe are actively working to ensure that the Brookline Symphony Orchestra becomes a vital part of Brookline's cultural life -- a community orchestra in the truest sense of the word. In addition to our three traditional concerts this season, we have planned a number of free outreach events, including free full orchestra concerts at the Perkins School for the Blind in March and at 100 Center Street Hebrew Senior Life Community in May. We send musicians to various venues around the community, such as the Goddard House retirement home, to present residents of Brookline quality chamber music outside of the concert hall. We also participate in local cultural and community events, such as the First Light Festival, and the Brookline Food Emergency Food Pantry fundraiser: "Have Heart, a Chocolate Exravaganza," where we enliven the occasions and gatherings with our music. Ways You Can HelpWe want to sustain our success through our current season and for years to come, and we need your help. To run an orchestra takes a tremendous amount of time, dedication, and money. Tax deductible donations from our patrons are the primary source of funding for this organization. Come to the remaining concerts of the season (March 4th and May 20th, 2012).
